Parkway Shopping Centre achieves dementia-friendly certification for the fifth 5th consecutive year!
The Parkway Shopping Centre, owned and managed by Evolve Estates, has been awarded the Dementia Friendly Certificate for the fifth year in a row.
This achievement reflects the centre’s unwavering commitment to inclusivity and understanding the complex needs of the local community.
In collaboration with Dementia Friends Middlesbrough, Parkway’s journey towards becoming dementia-friendly has been a collective effort, involving not only our dedicated team but also some of our valued tenants, including Tesco and Bentley’s Coffee Shop.
We understand the importance of creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported, so to ensure our staff is well-prepared to assist those with dementia, we’ve organised workshops to educate them about the condition, different behaviours, and how to provide the necessary support.
Our goal is to make every visitor’s experience at Parkway as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
But our commitment to the community doesn’t stop there. Over the years, we’ve initiated several programmes aimed at addressing isolation and loneliness. We operate our own community bus, which provides transportation for those who may otherwise struggle to access our services. Also, in partnership with Age UK Teesside, we host a monthly drop-in café where individuals can come together, socialise, and combat isolation.
Caring for the environment and neighbourhood is also important to us. Since 2018, we’ve organised regular litter picks in the local area, contributing to a cleaner and healthier community.
Furthermore, over the past year, we have joined hands with Cleveland Police to offer our site for their cadets’ engagement day. This allows these future law enforcement officers to work on various scenarios, which helps aid in their training and fosters stronger community connections.
Zoe France, Regional Estates manager at Evolve Estates and centre manager, said; “We’re incredibly proud of our achievements and partnerships and are eager to continue making positive contributions to the well-being of our community. Thank you to all our staff, tenants, partners, and visitors for their continued support on this remarkable journey.”.
