Robin Completes His 22Nd Marathon At Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon
Our Finance Director, Robin Mawby, has completed 22 marathons - out of his target 52 this year - after completing the inaugural Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon.
The event (May 14, 2023) saw more than 12,000 participants take to the streets of Leeds, starting and finishing at Headingley Stadium and taking in some of the city's countryside and suburbs.
Inspired by Rugby League legend Kevin Sinfield, who has raised more than £8 million for Motor Neurone Disease charities, the 26.2-mile course was named after former Leeds Rhinos star Rob Burrow, who was diagnosed with MND in 2019.
The crowds in Leeds cheered as Sinfield, who pushed his former teammate in a specially adapted wheelchair, stopped just short of the finish line to pick him up and carry him over.
Robin who is also raising fund for the Motor Neurone Disease Association after seeing Sinfield's incredible efforts, aims to complete 52 marathons this year and has already raised more than £5000.
"I joined thousands of others in the orange, white and blue MND Association vests, or the special Leeds Rhinos'Burrow 7' MND tops to run for Rob and ‘Sir Kev'," he said.
"Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Kevin pushing Rob or the emotional moment when he carried him over the line, but the crowds were amazing, like nothing I have experienced before, leaving me with memories to treasure.
"I still have 30 marathons left to complete my challenge this year, but Sunday provided wonderful inspiration to keep moving forward."
